Homework Logs- Word Study and Sight Words
We have finished our specific study of words for the year, which means I will no longer be assigning different word patterns, or chunks of words, to learn. We will however take time to review the word patterns we have learned this year and make sure we know them well.
Our goal is to have at least 120 sight words come to students easily when they are reading. Please continue to work on the word study books that are coming home, and send them back to school often. I am making time three times a week to meet with students individually to listen to them read their word books.
Even though we are reviewing, it is definitely not time to stop reading at night! I know that there are many sporting events going on right now, and plenty of practices, but having your child read out loud each night for 15 to 20 minutes will help them solidify all they have learned and help them reach year end reading goals.
Math
We have moved into Geometry and Fractions. We will continue to work on math skills for the balance of the year. There will be small bits of math homework that will come home over the next few weeks. Please continue to practice math facts in both addition and subtraction.
Zoo Pictures
I have been having difficulties posting pictures from my phone. If you have any zoo photos, please email me a copy. I would appreciate it greatly!
Butterflies
We have been studying Living and Non-Living things at school. We are also learning about the life cycle of butterflies. We have nine chrysalis in our room now. We are very excited to see all our butterflies when they make their way out into the world!
Year End Testing
Next week we will begin our final computerized tests for Language Arts and Math. I will do my very best to keep this time stress free for your child. One way to help, is to be sure your child has enough sleep and a nutritious snack for school.
I will be reviewing test taking strategies, including those that help students stay relaxed. Remember, these tests are only one small glimpse into the knowledge and accomplishments your child has made this year. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of education, and this is only one piece. I will be reminding your child how great they are and how much they have learned this year, EVERY DAY during testing, please help them feel encouraged by doing the same.
