Animal Research Reports
Reminder: At home research is due on Monday, April 7th. We will write reports this week, and have activities each day to create a full report by the end of the week.
We are writing one section each day. Students will write between 3 and 6 complete sentences, in their best writing, each day. This is not unreasonable for this point in first grade.
They will not complete the report in one writing segment, or complete the project without support. However, in order to finish, they will have to be on task and use strategies they have learned this year. I am very excited for you to see what they have can accomplish in writing.
Thank you for your support with at home research! We will have a few report reading days once all reports are finished. I will establish a day and time and send it home, that way if you would like to come to listen, you may.

Math
Students need to practice addition and subtraction math facts through 10 at home as well as at school. If you think back to your childhood, I am sure you can remember working on math facts at home. This is very important. Use flash cards, games, playing cards, quiz in the car, whatever you can do to practice. Most students may need about 15 minutes of extra practice each night.
We are moving into addition and subtraction of numbers up to 20. Students do not have to memorize these facts this year, but they do need a strategy for figuring them out rather quickly. We will work with "fact families" and solving many story problems with these facts.

Science and Social Studies
We are studying severe weather this week. We will discuss what severe weather is, complete a few science experiments, and learn what we do to protect ourselves. Students will bring home books on tornadoes and thunderstorms. They may have questions about at home safety plans during severe weather.
