Reading:
This week we will learn to summarize! Students will retell the main idea and details in a story.
Grammar:
We will learn about nouns. Students are discovering that nouns are a person, place, thing, or animal. We are identifying nouns in sentences. Try coming up with nouns at home and sorting them into the categories above for extra practice.
Writing:
This week our focus is on writing a personal narrative with an introduction, two or three details, and a closing sentence. This is a skill we build on all year. It takes time and practice to be able to write this way, and we will continue to practice daily.
Math:
We are making a ten this week, too! This skill is very important, and we will continue to work on it. Also, we are going to work on writing numbers to 30. I would like all students to be able to write thier numbers correctly to 30 in the next few weeks. This includes finding the missing number in a series up to 30. For example: 25, ____, 27. We are also completing journal problems and building fluency in all addition problems with sums up to 10.
Science:
We will learn about animal families this week. Our focus will be on the names of animal families (ex: cow, bull, calf), and what animal parents do to provide for and protect thier young.
Social Studies/Health:
Today we learned about germs and the importance of handwashing. Please continue to discuss this at home. Handwashing keeps us as healthy as possible in the upcoming months of colds and flu.
Volunteers:
I would love to start having volunteers come in to read with students, help them with AR tests, play word / math games. I would like volunteers from 8:00 until 10:00 if at all possilbe. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. If there is another time that would work better for you, please let me know. I also have lots of laminating and games that need to be cut out and organized. If you are up for the task, I would be extremely grateful! All volunteers must have completed new background checks for this school year.
Thank you for all you do to continue the learning process at home! Have a a wonderful week!
