What's New in Our Class?*We have started KidBlog! Students will be typing personal narratives, fiction, poems, and informational reports online. This will give families and other students a chance to read, and comment, on children's work! This is very exciting, and the students are quick at picking up this new way to write. Some important information: 1st: All posts will be reviewed by me before they are published. This way I can make sure students don't have anything harmful such as: location, last names, school names, or other harmful information in their blogs. 2nd: All comments will be approved by me before they are published live. This way, any hurtful comments will not be published. 3rd: Please don't expect your child to have a grammatically correct or spelling error free piece of writing. They will correct some of the items that are appropriate for a first grader to correct, but they are still first grade writers. They will most likely have a lot of invented spelling, even in their typed documents. That is ok. It is developmentally appropriate. We are working on those items each day. 4th: Not all students have a published piece as of today. It is our goal for everyone to have a published blog by the end of the week. We are still in training mode. Find the blog here: www.kidblog.org/MrsHawkinsClass-8 We hope you enjoy them! Please visit the site often to support the your child or other students in the class. This Week * No Spelling Test! We are really reading a lot, and digging in to March is Reading Month! We will resume spelling when we return. * Please send in a small can (empty & cleaned) for an art project for your child. Please send in when we return from Spring Break. The wrapper needs to be removed. Example: This can be from a can the size of a can of corn or beans or fruit. * We are starting a Wild Animal Research Report. Your child will pick an animal this week. They WILL have homework to do in the area of research. It will come home on Monday (tomorrow) and be due the day they return from Spring Break. It should only take an hour to an hour and a half in total. This is to be done WITH the support of an adult. Look for the homework information packet to come home tomorrow. Thank you!We received our Wireless Headsets and CD Player from Donor's Choose this week! Thank you so much for supporting our grant!
In addition, we received $75 in Donor's Choose gift cards to go toward a new project this year! I will be placing another project online in the next few weeks, as I hate to have any amount of donations go to waste. Thank you for all of the amazing support your have given our classroom this year! Mrs. Hawkins Dear Families,
