We will be finished with making 8 and 9 this week. Students will then need to practice, practice, practice thier math facts so they can build fluency with these facts. We will make 10 next week, as this is a critical skill to higher mental computations. Please begin practicing math facts at home. It is a first grade goal to be fluent in addtion facts throug the sum of ten. This means they should know thier facts automatically, and that takes lots of practice.
We are reading fiction and non fiction books about teamwork! We are discussing the author's purpose for writing books and finding clues in the text to support our ideas. We are building comprehension by stopping to check for understanding often in our reading as well.
We learned about acrostic poetry today. We wrote two poems together as a class.

There is no parade this year. We will have a classroom party. The students and I will discuss the party tomorrow and they will bring home information for those of you who signed up to bring treats or attend the celebration.
