Mrs. Hawkins’ First Grade
Animal Research Report
Dear Families,
One of the great projects we do in our class is create a book about an animal. Students choose and animal, research the animal, and then compile a book about the animal.
The project is completed through a combination of at school and at home work. Below you will see the part families are responsible for as homework.
So far, we have:
1- Chosen an animal
2- Internet research with a fourth grade research “assistant”
3- Begun our Table of Contents
The following items will need to be completed at home and returned by Monday, May 6th. We will be writing in school. If your child has not completed writing by Thursday, May 9th, they will bring it home for homework. Books are due on Monday May 13th. We will publish that day.
Homework Due on Monday, May 6th
1- Review the research your child has completed so far. Help with spelling, and be sure they can read what they have written.
2- Help your child find additional information. Students need to have 3 or more pieces of information in each area. This way, they can write 3 sentences when they begin their reports.
3- Help students locate and print some pictures of their animal. Students may want to have color pictures, and these need to be brought from home. (They will also illustrate with their own drawings!)
Please return the folder by Monday, May 6th. This gives four additional days. Remember, research can be short bullet points. Students will be turning the information into complete sentences at school. This project should only take an hour or two total. This is not meant to be stressful, but an enjoyable way to learn about animals and writing. Remember, first graders are still young writers, and may need your support to complete the research portion of this project. This is completely acceptable!
Thank you for your support!
